Helps work up von Willebrand disease, an inherited bleeding disorder in which the von Willebrand factor protein that anchors platelets at a wound is missing or faulty. This test measures how well the protein in a blood plasma sample binds to collagen III, one of the fibers exposed when a blood vessel is damaged, and reports the result as a level. A companion test measures binding to collagen IV instead.
