Lower Back Joint Injection, Ultrasound-Guided

Vermont rates for HCPCS 0216T

Numbing medicine, and often a steroid with it, is injected into one of the small paired joints linking the bones of the lower back or the area near the tailbone, or into the tiny nerves that carry sensation from that joint. Ultrasound is held against the back during the injection so the needle can be watched on screen and placed accurately. The aim is to settle pain from that joint and to help show whether it really is the source of the pain, and this covers a single level of the spine.
