A doctor injects a small amount of bone cement into the sacrum - the triangular bone at the base of the spine - through a needle placed through the skin, using imaging guidance to confirm correct placement. This is done to stabilize a painful sacral fracture, often one caused by weakened bone (such as from osteoporosis), and to relieve pain by supporting the bone from within. This version treats one side of the sacrum.
