Focused sound-wave energy is aimed through the skin of the lower abdomen to heat and destroy fibroids, the noncancerous growths that form in the wall of the uterus. Magnetic resonance imaging is used throughout to aim the beam and watch the temperature of the tissue being treated. No incision is made, and this version covers a smaller total volume of fibroid tissue.
