Placing a patient under deep sedation or general anesthesia for the beginning portion of a dental or oral surgery procedure, so the patient is deeply relaxed or fully unconscious and unaware during the work. It covers the sedation team's monitoring of breathing, heart rate, and consciousness level from the start of the anesthesia. Longer procedures require continued sedation beyond this initial period, which is tracked as its own step.
