When a newborn is not breathing adequately or has an inadequate heartbeat right after birth, this service covers the emergency care given in the delivery room, including help with breathing using positive pressure ventilation and, if needed, chest compressions. It is provided by a clinician, separate from routine delivery care, to stabilize a newborn in immediate distress.
