Balloon Opening Of Wall Between Heart Chambers

Indiana rates for HCPCS 92992

A catheter procedure, used mainly in newborns with certain heart defects, that enlarges the natural opening in the wall between the two upper chambers of the heart. A tube is passed through a vein to the heart, and a balloon at its tip is inflated on the far side of the opening and pulled back through it to widen it, so oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood can mix and the baby can be stabilized.
