Injecting Sperm Directly Into Eggs

Delaware rates for HCPCS 89280

A laboratory technique in which a single sperm is injected straight into an egg under a microscope to achieve fertilization, instead of leaving eggs and sperm to meet on their own in a dish. It is used when sperm numbers or movement are poor, when eggs failed to fertilize in an earlier attempt, or when surgically retrieved sperm is being used. It covers the laboratory work on the eggs collected in that cycle.
