Mucopolysaccharide Urine Screen

Hawaii rates for HCPCS 83866

A screening test for mucopolysaccharides - long sugar chains, also called glycosaminoglycans, that the body uses to build cartilage, skin and other connective tissue - in a urine sample. It shows whether the amount looks higher than expected rather than reporting an exact figure. A raised result suggests one of the inherited storage disorders in which the body cannot break these chains down properly.
