A nuclear medicine study in which a small amount of radioactive tracer is attached to blood platelets, the cell fragments that help blood clot, and measurements are then taken over a period to work out how long those platelets last in the bloodstream. It is used when platelet counts are low and doctors need to know whether platelets are being destroyed faster than normal.
