Upper GI X-Ray With Small Bowel Follow-Through

Washington, DC rates for HCPCS 74245

This covers an X-ray study in which the patient swallows a contrast liquid (barium) so the esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine can be seen on X-ray images. Additional images are taken over time as the contrast continues moving into the small intestine, which is why it's called a follow-through study. It helps evaluate symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, or suspected blockages along this part of the digestive tract.
