This covers an X-ray study in which the patient swallows a contrast liquid so the esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine can be examined on X-ray images. It is used to evaluate symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, reflux, or a suspected abnormality in this part of the digestive tract. Multiple images are taken as the contrast moves through the digestive tract.
