Continuous Numbing Infusion Near Lumbar Plexus

Washington, DC rates for HCPCS 64449

Places a fine catheter from the back alongside the lumbar plexus, the bundle of nerves in the lower back that supplies the hip, thigh and knee, and leaves it there to deliver a continuous infusion of numbing medication. Bathing the nerves steadily keeps the area numb for days, rather than the few hours a single injection lasts. It is used mainly for pain control after surgery on the hip or leg.
