Working through the vagina, the surgeon lifts the lining, brings the stretched supporting tissue back together with stitches and trims any excess lining before closing; the area between the vagina and the anus can be repaired at the same time. It is done for a feeling of bulging or pressure and for difficulty emptying the bowel.
