Surgery to repair an epigastric hernia, a bulge through a weak spot in the midline of the abdominal wall between the navel and the breastbone, usually containing a small plug of fat. It is done when the bulge can still be pushed back in. The surgeon makes a small incision over the site, returns the tissue, and closes the gap.
