An exam of the anal canal using a short, rigid scope, during which a growth or abnormal tissue that cannot be captured and removed with grasping tools or a wire loop is instead destroyed in place using heat or another method. It combines direct visual examination of the anal canal with treatment of the lesion at the same visit. It differs from simpler anoscopy procedures that only take a tissue sample or remove a growth that can be captured intact.
