In this procedure, a rigid, narrow scope is passed through the anus to examine the rectum and lower part of the colon, and a single small growth is removed using a heated instrument that both cuts and seals the tissue. It is performed to both diagnose and treat a polyp or similar growth found during the exam. Tissue is typically sent to a lab afterward for analysis.
