Revision Of A Shunt Inside The Liver

Maryland rates for HCPCS 37183

Reopens or repairs a shunt placed earlier inside the liver, which connects the vein carrying blood from the bowel to a vein leaving the liver. Through a catheter passed by way of a neck vein, the doctor takes pressure readings and pictures, then reopens the narrowed or blocked channel, for example with a balloon or an added stent, so blood flows through it again. It is done when the original shunt has narrowed or clotted.
