Replacement Of A Long-Term Central IV Line

An existing long-term intravenous catheter, one that runs under the skin to a large vein near the heart, is removed and replaced with a new one through the same access site, without a separate medication reservoir or port attached. This is used when a catheter that has been in place for ongoing IV access needs to be swapped out.
