Replacement of both of a patient's lungs with donor lungs, carried out without putting the patient on the heart-lung machine, so the circulation continues through the body's own heart throughout. The lungs are usually done one after the other, with the remaining lung supporting the patient while the other side is replaced. It is offered for end-stage lung disease affecting both sides.
