A surgeon removes a thickened, irritated section of nerve tissue between the bones of the foot, a condition commonly known as Morton's neuroma. This growth can cause pain, burning, or a feeling of a lump between the toes, especially with walking or tight shoes. Removing the affected nerve tissue is intended to relieve these symptoms.
