Cuts a window through the hard outer shell of bone in the pelvis or around the hip joint to reach infection or a pocket of pus trapped inside it. The infected material and any dead bone are cleared out and the space is washed through. Infection sitting inside bone is poorly reached by antibiotics and usually has to be opened surgically.
