Amputation of the arm through the upper-arm bone, with an implant fitted at the cut end of the bone during the same operation. Bone and soft tissue are shaped and the end is closed with well-padded tissue so the limb can later take an artificial arm. It is done for severe injury, infection, loss of blood supply, or a tumor.
