Scalene Muscle Release With Cervical Rib Removal

This surgery treats compression of nerves and blood vessels in the lower neck and upper chest, a condition called thoracic outlet syndrome. The surgeon cuts the anterior scalene muscle in the neck to relieve pressure on the nerves and vessels passing beneath it, and also removes an extra cervical rib when one is present and contributing to the squeeze. It is usually done through an incision above the collarbone or in the armpit area.
