A surgical procedure that reshapes one or more facial bones to reduce their size or smooth out a prominent contour, such as an overly large jaw, cheekbone, or chin area. The surgeon removes or files down excess bone to create a more balanced facial shape. It may be done for cosmetic reasons or to correct a bone that has grown too large or asymmetrically.
