This covers taking a small tissue sample from a lump, mass, or other lesion using a needle, with the help of imaging guidance to precisely locate the area being sampled. It can be used for a lesion in many parts of the body, not only lymph nodes, to help find the cause of an abnormal finding such as infection, inflammation, or possible cancer. The sample is sent to a lab for detailed evaluation.
