Removing An Aortic Counterpulsation Heart System

New Hampshire rates for HCPCS 0455T

An implanted system that assists a weakened heart — a device sitting inside the aorta and working in time with each heartbeat — is taken out. The component inside the artery is withdrawn along the blood vessel it was placed through, and the parts under the skin and the connection passing out through the skin come out with it. It is done when the heart has recovered enough, when the system has failed or become infected, or when the patient is moving on to another treatment.
