Implanting An Aortic Counterpulsation Heart System

Pennsylvania rates for HCPCS 0451T

A complete implanted system is placed to help a weakened heart pump. The pumping component is delivered along a blood vessel and sits inside the aorta, the main artery leaving the heart, where it expands between heartbeats to drive blood onward and collapses as the heart empties, so the heart meets less resistance and its own blood supply improves. Every part is placed in this operation, including the connection that passes out through the skin to an external control unit.
