Implanting A Breathing Stimulator For Sleep Apnea

Arizona rates for HCPCS 0424T

A complete implanted system is placed to treat central sleep apnea, in which the brain periodically stops signaling the body to breathe. A generator goes under the skin of the upper chest and wires are threaded through veins so that one stimulates the nerve controlling the diaphragm while another senses breathing effort, prompting a breath when one is missed. Testing and programming the system are part of the procedure.
