Overgrown prostate tissue that is blocking the flow of urine is removed with a high-pressure jet of water delivered through a scope passed along the urethra, with ultrasound imaging used to map the area to be treated. Because the jet cuts tissue without heat, nearby structures are less affected. Controlling bleeding afterwards and the related steps through the urethra are part of the same procedure.
