Treatment of fibroids, the noncancerous growths that form in the wall of the uterus, through small keyhole incisions in the abdomen. Ultrasound is used during the operation to find each fibroid, and a needle-like probe delivers heat energy that destroys the fibroid tissue, which the body then shrinks and reabsorbs over the following months. The uterus itself is left in place.
