A permanent system for measuring pressure inside the heart is implanted complete. A sensor on a fine lead is threaded through a vein and positioned inside the heart, and a small module placed under the skin collects its readings and passes them on, with X-ray guidance and dye injections used during placement. The readings let the care team see fluid backing up in someone with heart failure and adjust treatment before symptoms become severe.
