Catheter Closure Of The Heart's Left Atrial Pouch

Nebraska rates for HCPCS 0281T

Sealing off the small pouch that hangs off the heart's upper left chamber, where blood can sit still and form clots. A thin tube is passed from a vein in the groin up to the heart and across the wall between the two upper chambers, and a plug-like implant is opened inside the mouth of the pouch to close it; X-ray pictures with dye are used to size the pouch and check the implant is seated. It is done mainly to lower the risk of stroke in people with an irregular heartbeat.
