Heparin-Induced Low Platelet Antibody Test

Wyoming rates for HCPCS 0275U

Checks for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, a reaction in which the blood thinner heparin triggers antibodies that activate platelets, dropping the platelet count and paradoxically raising the risk of clots. Blood serum is tested by flow cytometry, which examines individual cells one at a time, to see whether platelet-activating antibodies are present. It measures how antibodies behave and involves no genetic testing.
