Support of an Organ Donor During Recovery

Illinois rates for HCPCS 01990

Covers the work of an anesthesia team maintaining circulation, breathing, fluid balance and body temperature in a person who has been declared dead on neurological grounds, so that donated organs stay healthy until they are recovered. It is not anesthesia in the ordinary sense, because the patient has already died; the service is the physiological support provided in the operating room throughout the recovery of the organs. It is carried out with the same monitoring and equipment used during major surgery.
