Additional anesthesia care when burn surgery covers a further substantial area of the body beyond the area covered by the base anesthesia service. Burn surgery involves removing dead and damaged skin and sometimes placing skin grafts, and treating more surface area means more time, more fluid and blood loss, and more heat loss to manage. Each further area is charged in addition to the base anesthesia service, and the surgeon's work is charged separately.
