Anesthesia for Removal of the Rectum and Anus

Pennsylvania rates for HCPCS 00844

Anesthesia care for an operation that removes the rectum and the anus together, working both through the abdomen and through the area between the legs, and brings the bowel out to a permanent opening on the abdominal wall. The anesthesia team keeps the patient asleep, manages fluids and blood loss over a long operation, and usually arranges an epidural or block for pain afterward. The surgeon's work is charged separately.
