Anesthesia for Removal of the Pancreas

Pennsylvania rates for HCPCS 00794

Anesthesia care for an operation to remove part or all of the pancreas, including the Whipple operation, in which the head of the pancreas is taken out along with the adjoining parts of the bile duct, stomach and small intestine. These operations run long and involve large shifts of blood and fluid, so the anesthesia team places monitoring lines and manages circulation, blood sugar and temperature throughout. The surgeon's work is charged separately.
