Anesthesia for a Heart or Heart-Lung Transplant
South Dakota rates for HCPCS 00580
Anesthesia care for the operation in which a failing heart, or the heart and lungs together, is replaced with a donated organ. The anesthesia team supports a very sick circulation before the new organ starts working, manages the heart-lung machine period along with bleeding and clotting, and starts the drugs that get the new heart beating. The transplant surgeon's work is charged separately.
