Anesthesia for Heart Surgery With Circulatory Arrest
Alaska rates for HCPCS 00563
Anesthesia care for heart or great-vessel surgery in which the body is deliberately cooled far below normal temperature and blood flow is stopped altogether for part of the operation, so the surgeon can work in a bloodless field. The anesthesia team runs the cooling and rewarming, protects the brain during the period without circulation, and manages heart-lung machine support around it. The surgeon's work is charged separately.
