Anesthesia for Drilling Burr Holes in the Skull

Minnesota rates for HCPCS 00214

Anesthesia care for a procedure in which small round holes are drilled through the skull to reach the brain or the fluid spaces inside it, whether to drain a collection, place a drain, or inject dye so those spaces can be X-rayed. The anesthesia team keeps the patient asleep and still, controls the pressure inside the head, and monitors breathing and circulation. The neurosurgeon's work is charged separately.
